Hasty Conclusion XI

Posted: June 17, 2010 in World Cup

Based on one round of games. Not many players have covered themselves in too much glory at this World Cup so far, and if I was taking last night’s game into account Tshabalala would have been out (he was rubbish) and Forlan would’ve been in. I’m feeling some serious love for Forlan right now, that was the best individual performance of the tournament so far.

Here we go then, in a 4-3-3.

                                                       Enyeama (Nigeria)

Lahm (Germany)     Grichting (Switzerland)    Von Bergen (Switzerland)     Bastos (Brazil)

Ozil (Germany)             Schweinsteiger (Germany)        Tshabalala (South Africa)

Gyan (Ghana)            Messi (Argentina)         Robinho (Brazil)

This is based on games I’ve actually been able to watch – so the Dutch don’t get a look in. Of the less-obvious ones, Switzerland’s defence was Man-Sized in their win over Spain, Gyan was the driving force behind Ghana’s surprise win over Serbia, and Enyeama made some blinding saves against Argentina. Messi is the only superstar to really perform in their first game – although Iniesta and Xavi were top-drawer in defeat. Robinho was Brazil’s creative force and Schweinsteiger and Ozil ran the show in their smashing of the Aussies.

Not bad. Wouldn’t win many headers, mind.
